Is Anybody Listening?

So, for those of you that have not been keeping up with the blog I have self-published my first book.  It is a book of poetry entitled Pieces of Me and to order your copy of this diverse collection click on this link: http://www.lulu.com/content/paperback-book/pieces-of-me/8149867.  I appreciate the support of everyone who has made a purchase and even the haters that are dishing the negativity.  I love the questions people are asking me about the book.  What inspired you to share your thoughts?  What were you going through when you wrote this?  Who is (insert name here)?  What made you feel that way?  Did this really happen to you?  When I say I have been asked some questions, I really mean it.

Honestly, I did not think that poetry would receive the reactions that I have gotten.  I know when I read I analyze things but I have the tendency to analyze things anyway.  What I appreciate the most is that they are really reading, I mean really.  As a writer you don’t know how good it makes me feel for one of my readers to actually say something I wrote touched them, made them laugh or cry.  It allows me to see that I have connected with their emotions and I feel honored to have inspired someone else.

I have been reading since I was in the kindergarten and writing since I was in the second grade.  I enjoyed literature and African American history and over the years I still enjoy to explore it in my past time.  I encourage all of those that have children if you see that they are good in something then you need to invest in their abilities.  For some people they have to go to school and learn the craft for others it is a gift in which school may help perfect.  These days I have so much going on in my life as I seek to find the place in this world where I actually belong.  One day I hope that the Lord will allow me the opportunity to stop roaming and actually find where home is.  Until then I will keep on being me.

I wish other people would practice being who they are.  The problem is they are so busy trying to borrow certain aspects from others that in the mist of everything they lose who self is.  I have always been quiet, slightly shy, soft spoken/out spoken, a real friend, honest and etcetera.  I must say it is a learning experience and daily I battle with not allowing the labels people put on me hinder me.  Like Tyler Perry stated in one of his movies, “It’s not what people call you honey, it’s what you answer to…”  So, what are some of you answering to?

Many of you need to do some self evaluation and some closet cleaning.  I know this is something that none of us wants to do but it is a must.  If you find that you have a “friend” or “significant other” that always has something negative to say about you or to you.  Reality check- get rid of them because they are holding you back.  There are some people who were not meant to be with us always and we need to realize that as well.  When their season is up stop trying to renew them; their time has expired and it is for good reason.  I would like to end by saying life is too short so begin living it to the fullest.  Live, laugh, love, relax, relate and release but no matter what stay true to yourself and never stop being WHO U ARE!
